Sports and remedial massage is hands-on treatment aimed at comfort and movement. Some people find it helpful for temporary relief from muscle soreness or tension. The response varies, and massage cannot diagnose the cause of pain or guarantee that it will not return.
Choose treatment around your goals
Before a session, explain what has changed, what movements or activities are difficult, and what you hope to get from treatment. You can discuss pressure, clothing, positioning and any areas you do not want treated. You can ask questions, pause or stop at any time.
When pain needs a different response
Pain after an accident, a sudden loss of function, marked swelling, or symptoms that are worsening may need assessment before massage. Persistent or recurring pain can have several contributing factors; hands-on treatment is only one possible part of a plan.
Combine comfort with useful activity
If returning to activity is your goal, treatment can be paired with gradual movement or exercise suited to your situation. Massage should not be used to push through symptoms that are getting worse. Seek a suitable assessment if you are uncertain about an injury or your ability to exercise safely.
